Successfully Working With Vendors

Over the past year, I have had the privilege to assist several weddings and photoshoots and plan different styled shoots with a countless number of vendors in Eugene and Los Angeles. The main takeaway that I gathered was that it is so important to create relationships with vendors in order to be successful as a wedding and event planner. Having a certain level of professionalism and making sure vendors know that your job as a planner is to support them throughout the event is of utmost importance.

“Love knows no gender, age, race or religion.”

I recently saw the movie Love, Simon, which is about a male high school senior who is still in the closet about being gay. Spoiler Alert! He eventually comes out in a very unfortunate way, which causes friend issues, yet had a surprisingly very sweet ending. Simon’s parents handle the situation in the best way possible, in my opinion, loving their son no matter what and telling him that he can now fully be himself.

Wedding Vows

Handwritten vows always tug at my heartstrings. Today I wanted to share a quote from the movie The Vow with Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams. Paige’s (McAdams) vows read, “I vow to help you love life, to always hold you with tenderness and to have the patience that love demands, to speak when words are needed and to share the silence when they are not, to agree to disagree on red velvet cake, and to live within the warmth of your heart and always call it home.”

Be Prepared For Anything!

As a wedding and event planner, I have learned to be prepared for any issue that may arise. This skill definitely comes with practice, which is why I believe assisting other planners is so important to gain that valuable experience. Troubleshooting is a huge part of this job, and it becomes easier when you are always on your toes and aware of what is happening, or should be happening, at all times.

Community Over Competition

Over the past year, I have learned more about the wedding industry than I could have ever imagined. The people I have chosen to surround myself with, including planners and other vendors, in Eugene and Los Angeles, have had the most uplifting and generous attitudes towards helping and teaching me about their work. The idea of community over competition has stuck with me, and my goal now is to implement this mindset throughout my business and help those who are in my shoes when they are starting to learn about this line of work.

A Career Full Of Smiles, Laughter and Love

A while back LVL Weddings & Events sent out an email that read, “We have chosen a career that can lift people up, make people smile, laugh and most of all celebrate the true gift that love brings into our lives.” I wanted to highlight this here today because for all of us wedding planners, I feel like we can all relate to this. These are some of the reasons why I do what I do! Celebrating the gift of love and creating those beautiful, happy moments that people will remember forever, truly represent my goals in being a wedding and event planner, and I wanted to recognize that today!

What I Have Been Up To!

I have had the amazing opportunity to work with some amazing, talented people the past few months! Andrea from Andrea Haughey Design has partnered with me to create custom wedding stationery suites and calligraphy packages for clients who may be interested. Along with that, I am styling and photographing her beautiful designs, (stay tuned for photos soon!) so she has high-quality photos to share with her potential clients.

Eat, Sleep, Plan, Repeat!

If you know me, you know that I never really take breaks. During most of my breaks from school, I am assisting a wedding or two, helping other planners or vendors with tasks, having meetings with other planners or vendors to learn more about their businesses and the wedding industry or working on my many upcoming projects. I love learning about anything and everything I can that will set me up for success once I am running my business full-time.

Rustic Elegance at Deep Woods

I am so excited to announce that I am planning a wedding styled shoot with my good friend and fellow wedding planner, Angelica Caluza from Anela Events. We have been working with an amazing vendor team (listed below) to put together something simply beautiful. This is my first styled shoot and one of the biggest planning experiences I have had the privilege to work on. I feel blessed to have the support from all of these vendors. We designed this mock-wedding to have a romantic and rustic feel,  while still remaining elegant. The shoot is set in a beautiful forest, and our choices of rentals are classic and simple. Angelica and I were inspired by many things when choosing the design and color palette. The mix of blue tones, ivory and gold against the classic wood furnishings and forestry around us, provides a picturesque display, I cannot wait to share with you. We chose clean, white flowers to add a pleasant contrast to the dark, lush, forestry. We are truly astounded by how pleasantly everything is coming together.

My Motto

Love is the reason I want to do what I do, so why not display it on my wall?! Above my bed, I hang a banner that says, “Love is patient, love is kind.” It is a constant reminder of my beliefs and what I truly value most in this world, the people who I love and a career that allows me to spread love. I try to remember these words every day as I walk through life. This is my motto in my business, relationships and life! To me, being patient and kind are the best ways to show love to someone, and I try to practice this regularly.

Grateful

With this blog, I will be sharing a lot about what I have learned over the last two years working with other planners, vendors and clients. Before I do so, I want to recognize the planners who have been my mentors over the past year and have taught me all that I know.

Firstly, Deanna Nash from Deanna Nash Events has been a spectacular role model and has taught me a lot about the planning process, coordinating and the industry. I am so grateful to be learning from a wedding planning expert like her.
